MIC WHO?
One Mic, born in 1997 in The Bronx, New York, is a visual artist whose life and creative practice are deeply rooted in resilience, self-discovery, and the realities of growing up in poverty. Raised in the Bronx, he experienced firsthand the challenges of instability, displacement, and limited opportunity experiences that would later become foundational to the way he understood himself, his community, and the purpose of his art.At 15 years old, One Mic experienced a defining period in his life when his family was evicted from their home in Montgomery Village, Maryland. Following the eviction, his parents separated, leaving the family without a home as they made their way back to New York City to stay with relatives. The experience of losing stability at such a young age left a lasting impression, shaping his understanding of struggle, family, identity, and survival. These experiences would eventually become part of the emotional foundation from which his artistic voice emerged.Growing up in the Bronx, One Mic was heavily influenced by Hip-Hop and the culture surrounding him. He came to view creativity not simply as a form of expression, but as a means of understanding the world around him and defining his own identity within it. His journey into art developed through self-education and experimentation, eventually evolving into a multidisciplinary practice centered around mixed media painting and sculpture. As his practice developed, One Mic began exhibiting his work and building relationships with collectors and audiences who connected with the cultural and personal narratives embedded within his pieces. His selected works have been exhibited and acquired by private and institutional collectors, marking the continued development of an artist whose practice is inseparable from his life story. Now studying and continuing his artistic practice in Troy, New York, One Mic continues to develop a body of work that bridges his Bronx upbringing with his evolving perspective as an artist. His journey from childhood poverty and housing instability to becoming an emerging contemporary artist informs every layer of his practice. For One Mic, art is more than a career. It is a record of where he has been, an examination of who he has become, and a vision for what is possible. His work transforms personal experience into something others can encounter, question, and find meaning within turning struggle into material, memory into language, and survival into creation.EDUCATION[2024-2026] Fine Arts A.S., Hudson Valley Community College, New York, United StatesSELECTED GROUP EXHIBITIONS[2023] “The Remedy: Soul Food” 66 Greenpoint — Brooklyn, NY, USA
